Airbag recall widens. Now, not only Honda, Nissan and Mazda vehicles are affected by the recall, but also certain BMW, Chrysler, Ford and Toyota models. It should be noted that the problem is connected with the faulty airbag inflators that were supplied by Takata. Besides, mostly models in certain high-humidity areas are affected, according to an investigation carried out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The exact number of all the affected vehicles is not known yet. BMW is recalling certain models:
- Model-years 2001-2005 325i, 325Xi, 330i and 330Xi
- Model-years 2001-2006 325Ci and 330Ci
The problem affects both driver-side and passenger-side airbag inflators. Vehicles registered in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Florida and US Virgin Islands are involved in the recall.
Chrysler has provided little information about the specific models being recalled. It is only known that model-year 2006 Dodge Charger is being recalled. The vehicles are all being recalled from the aforementioned states.
As for Ford, it is recalling over 58,600 cars. Included in the recall are:
- Model-years 2005-2006 Ford GT
- Model-year 2008 Mustang
- Model-year 2004 Ranger
These vehicles as well are being recalled from states like Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and US Virgin Islands. Toyota also issues a recall in order to replace the passenger-side airbag inflator on certain models. These vehicles, too, are currently registered in Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Included in the recall are model-years 2003-2005:
