Chrysler is performing Fiat 500e recall of nearly 4,141 electric vehicles. Affected are model-years 2013-2014 vehicles manufactured between September 24, 2012, and April 4, 2014. All the affected electric cars are in the United States.
The reason for recalling the cars is that they may lose power. The automaker says that the power inverter module may let coolant seep onto electrical parts. This may result in a short circuit and a loss of power.
The problem was discovered while the company was reviewing warranty claims. It was found out that 5 cases occurred due to the defect. However, the automaker is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the problem.
Affected owners will be contacted directly by Chrysler. All the repairs will be performed free of charge. Concerned owners may call the Fiat Customer Assistance Center at 1-888-242-6342 for more information.
