Ford Expands Takata Airbag Recall

Ford Expands Takata Recall

Ford expands Takata recall due to the faulty airbag inflators that may result in serious injuries and even fatalities. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has urged nearly 10 automakers to expand the Takata Airbag Recall nationwide, hence Ford is now doing just that.

According to the automaker, the Takata Airbag Recall expansion covers nearly 502,489 vehicles. The total number of affected vehicles reaches 538,977. Affected by the expansion are the following vehicles:

  • Model-years 2005-2008 Ford Mustang manufactured between August 18, 2004, and June 25, 2007
  • Model-years 2005-2006 Ford GT manufactured between February 11, 2005, and January 30, 2006

The manufacturer knows only about one injury that might be connected with the recall. Ford has not yet announced a  recall notification schedule. But dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the airbag inflators free of charge.
