Secret Warranties

Published by Lemon Law under General Articles

Many automobile manufacturers have ”warranty adjustment“  or ”secret warranty“ programs. The manufacturer will, under these programs, do free repairs on vehicles with persistent problems, even after the warranty expires, in order to avoid a recall and bad press. According to the Center for Auto Safety (http://www.autosafety.org), there are approximately 500 secret warranty programs available through automobile manufacturers, at any given time.

Unfortunately, manufacturers don’t advertise these programs. So, a car owner won’t often  know about the available relief unless he or she complains about a problem and demands that the manufacturer repair it after the warranty has expired. In a few states, including California, Virginia, Connecticut,  and Wisconsin, manufacturers are required to tell eligible consumers about secret warranty programs — usually within 90 days of adopting the program.

Learn about express and implied warranties and how to enforce a warranty.

Published by Lemon Law under General Articles

An automobile warranty is a promise by a manufacturer or dealer that it will repair or replace defects in your car, or that your car will be of a certain quality, for a specified period of time.

Warranties are not just for new cars and are not always in writing. In some cases, even used cars purchased “as is” are covered by warranties. If you take the time to find out what warranties come with your car, what repairs those warranties cover, and how to enforce your warranties, you may save yourself a significant amount of money when your car needs repair.
